Academic Systems Algebra Validation Codes
For students: If your validation code does not work, you have lost it, or you have not received it, contact your instructor or campus. PLATO Support does not override validation codes.
For administrators:
-
Search for student's validation code:
Run a Validation Code Report - Course/Section report to locate the student or validation code. The report will only show validation codes used for current and active courses and sections only. If a section has expired, the report will not show the student or validation code.
-
If the student has entered the validation code, but no results are showing in the report, search for the validation code in Search Validation Codes on the Account Administration (Section Administration for instructors) menu.
If the code is associated with another user name, possibly one that the student was given or self-enrolled with for a previous section of this course, have the student use that user name. Assign that user to your section if necessary.
-
Manually override student validation (this will use up one of the school's licenses):
- Log in as an administrator.
- From Account Administration, select Find Users.
- Enter a student name (for example student1, student2) in the Keyword box. Click Go.
- Click the context menu next to the student's name.
- From the drop-down menu, select Override Validation.
- In the dialog box, select the Course, Section and Assignment for which you want to override validation.
- At the Are You Sure dialog box, click OK.
- At the Success dialog, click OK.
Does PLATO Support override validation codes?
No, PLATO Support does not override validation codes through the Override Validation feature. This feature is used at the discretion of the Account Administrator. It is the faculty's responsibility to decide if an override is necessary and request that override with the system admin (the only level with the privilege).
A Grace Period is given for validation; the grace period is set by the instructor when creating the section. The default value for the grace period is set when the account is created. This value ranges from 0 to 30 days.
How does a student get his or her validation code?
Students can receive their validation code in one of three ways:
- in the printed Personal Academic Notebook (PAN),
- in a Validation Code Kit provided by the institution, or
- electronic notification by the institution
Institutions (campuses) can receive validation codes by two methods:
- With Printed PAN - If the institution has purchased licenses that included printed PANs, then the validation codes are bound into the student's book. If the student has a printed book, then it includes the validation code. The instructor or institution staff person needs to tell the student to find it in the book.
- Without Printed PAN - If the institution has purchased licenses without PANs, then the students can receive the validation code either printed as part of the Validation Code Kit or electronically. Validation Code Kits (a small box containing a validation code card) are purchased by the students just as if they were buying a PAN. An institution that chooses electronic delivery of validation codes is responsibile for distributing the codes.
A validation code is valid for one course for one student.
