Permissions needed for PLATO Pathways on network hard drive:

  • If you have a Novell NetWare network, make sure users have RWECMF (Read, Write, Erase, Create, Modify and File Scan) rights to the \PWAY folder on the network drive.
  • If you have a Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server network, make sure users have CHANGE permissions assigned to the \PWAY folder on the network drive; this is usually given to the share that contains the PWAY folder.

It is recommended that you not assign "Full" permissions to students, since that would allow them to change permissions and take ownership of files, thereby assuming full rights to those files.

Permissions needed for PLATO Pathways on local hard drive:

Running the SETPERMS utility, located on the Pathways Downloads page on the Support Site, will set the correct modify and change permissions on workstations.

Windows XP workstations require "Modify" and "Change" permissions for students to run PLATO Pathways.

Windows 2000/XP Professional workstations using NTFS (NT File Security) require "Modify" permissions to be assigned to the following folders on the local drive. (Windows 2000 Professional workstations using a FAT32 file system do not have this requirement.):

  • C:\WINNT\PWAY (or C:\WINDOWS\PWAY)
  • C:\WINNT\TEMP (or C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)
  • C:\WINNT\WCMIWS.INI (or C:\WINNT\WCMIWS.INI)

If you are unsure which file system your workstation uses, right-click on the local hard drive of the workstation. (usually C:) and then click Properties. Your workstation's file system type is listed under the "General" tab.
