How to get the latest upgrades for your PLATO Pathways system and courseware

Is your site entitled to any Pathways courseware upgrades?

If you have a PLATO Pathways Learning Management System and your SSP (Software Support Plan) is current, then you are entitled to the latest versions of the courseware you have purchased. However, your hardware must meet system and configuration requirements before you can upgrade.

Verify that your hardware meets the system and configuration requirements:

Upgrade to the latest version of PLATO Pathways first

Before you upgrade courseware, your Pathways system must be at the latest version. While you can run courseware upgrades on a 4.1 system, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of Pathways, version 4.3.

If you do not have the latest version of Pathways, upgrade your Pathways system before you run any courseware upgrades.

Determine your Pathways system version:

Verify your version by signing on to Pathways. Click Help > About, then note the system version ("x" is any digit).

If your Pathways version is earlier than 4.3, order the latest PLATO Pathways upgrade. Install the upgrade before running any courseware upgrades.   If you have a Pathways 4.3 upgrade kit but haven't installed it yet, run the Pathways 4.3 upgrade before you run any courseware upgrades.

Upgrade your DOS-based courseware

If you have problems loading or running any of the following titles, you may have the DOS version instead of the Windows version installed. Upgrade to the Windows version of these titles:

• Calculus 1&2
• Chemistry 1&2
• Parenting Skills
• Physics 1&2
• Science Fundamentals
• Social Studies

Upgrade Windows-based courseware

If you have purchased any of the following courseware and your software support is current, you are eligible for upgrades to the latest versions.

• Advanced Reading Strategies
• Algebra 1 & 2, Parts 1 & 2
• Pre-Algebra, Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Algebra
• Essential Reading Skills
• Fundamental/Intermediate Reading Strategies
• Intermediate Writing Process and Practice
• Reading Explorations
• Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension
• Life Science

Which courseware titles are installed on my system?

If you already have Pathways 4.3 installed, but you're not sure what courseware you have, follow these steps to find out which upgradeable curricula (courseware titles) are installed on your system:

1. Sign on to Pathways as an administrator user.
2. Go to System Management > Courseware.
3. Click the Save Courseware List button to save this list to a text file.   You will see a message with the location of the file; for example, Q:\PWAY\LOGS\CWLIST.TXT. Make a note of this location.
4. Open the CWLIST.TXT file.   This file may include lists from earlier dates; if so, scroll down to the bottom of the file to find the most recent list.
5. Print a copy of the list using File > Print.

Which courseware upgrades am I eligible for?

Find the versions of the curricula installed on your system for which upgrades are available:

1. Go to Learning Resource Management. Follow steps 2-6 for each of the following curricula installed on your system:
   
   • Advanced Reading Strategies
   • Algebra 1, Part 1
   • Algebra 1, Part 2
   • Algebra 2, Part 1
   • Algebra 2, Part 2
   • Essential Reading Skills
   • Fundamental Reading Strategies
   • Intermediate Reading Strategies
   • Intermediate Writing Process and Practice
   • Reading Explorations
   • Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension
   • Life Science
2. Double-click a curriculum title, then double-click the activity inside it. Continue to expand the activities until you reach a lesson, indicated by a blue-screen icon.
   
   
   
3. Click Run to launch the lesson.
4. Click Tools > Help > Help About, or click Help > About this activity.
5. Note the Curriculum Version (it may simply say version; "x" is any number).
6. Refer to the Courseware Upgrade Action List below to determine whether an upgrade is available and how to order it.
